Kwansei Gakuin University has received an "A" rating in the mid-term evaluation for the 2020 academic year of the Support Project for the Creation of Super Global Universities*, following the previous mid-term evaluation.

Kwansei Gakuin University was selected as Type B (Global Traction Type).
In the SGU project, Kwansei Gakuin University has been working to "build a global academic port" with rich international characteristics. In particular, Kwansei Gakuin University has achieved its goal of becoming the top university in Japan in terms of the number of students sent to overseas partner universities, one of its key goals, five years earlier than originally envisioned,* by expanding the number of partner universities and developing university-wide study abroad programs. (*From the JASSO "Results of the 2018 Survey of Japanese Students Studying Abroad").
In the interim evaluation this time, the number of students studying abroad through the university's original educational OS, the "Double Challenge System," the improvement of English proficiency of Japanese students, which is the basis for sending students abroad, and the establishment of a new dormitory where students can live together with international students were noted as positive developments.,The evaluation report commented that "an atmosphere of learning in English is being fostered at the university, and internationalization of the university is being steadily promoted."
With regard to the university's efforts in university reform and management, the evaluation also noted that the university has formulated a future plan, "Kwansei Grand Challenge 2039," consisting of a long-term vision and long-term strategy, with an eye to 2039, the 150th anniversary of the university's founding, and has formulated a financial plan that will allow the plan to run on its own even after the SGU project ends in order to realize the vision of "evolving internationalization which is backed with tradition, and taking it to an outstanding level."
The university will continue to work diligently to achieve each of its goals as it moves toward the final year of the SGU Project in 2023.
