November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which was established by the United Nations. For 16 days, up until Human Rights Day on December 10, the student organization “HeForShe KG” and the Kwansei Gakuin University YWCA will conduct the “Orange KG” campaign in conjunction with “Orange the World 2021,” a global campaign for eliminating violence against women. There are plans to hold lectures on the topics of date violence and contraception, as well as seminars and social events.

On November 25, members of both groups met on the Central Lawn and mutually pledged to create a brighter campus through their activities. The theme of this anti-violence campaign is “Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now!” The Japan-based office of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) is leading the call in Japan. Members of the student organization HeForShe KG, which is working to promote the UN’s “HeForShe” gender equality movement, together with KG YWCA, are calling out to students. Online lectures and seminars will be held in the evening to make it easier for students to participate.

At the launch of the campaign, HeForShe KG member Yuna Ushida (fourth-year student in the School of International Studies) commented, “Together, let’s create a brighter campus, free of violence against women,” while KG YWCA member Yoshie Misaka (fourth-year student in the School of Policy Studies) said, “I would like everyone, not just students, to think about gender equality and sexuality matters as issues which concern them.”
