KGU began dispatching student volunteers in partnership with UNV in 2004. As a program, this was the first of its kind in Asia. Since then, more than 100 students have been dispatched to over 30 developing countries, including Mongolia, Rwanda and Samoa. In 2013, a new initiative to establish the Youth Volunteer Japan Training Center for the UNV Program, which became the central hub for training youth volunteers in Japan, was launched between KGU and UNV. This initiative has enabled youth volunteers from across Japan to benefit from KGU's extensive expertise in training youth volunteers, and prepared them for their overseas assignments. Nominated Youth Volunteers are trained at the Center, where they will acquire fundamental skills for international cooperation in developing nations in areas such as information and communication technologies, education, campaigning for awareness, and youth aid.
